Useful information on railcar repair

Railcar repair is an integral part of freight transportation. In order to reduce financial losses in the transportation of goods, this issue should be given priority attention.

Maintenance - 1

Depot repairs

Repairs performed to restore the serviceability and partial restoration of the railcar's service life, with control over the technical condition of its components, while ensuring the replacement or restoration of parts and assemblies of a limited range of railcars. Depot repairs are carried out after the expiration of overhaul standards (calendar period in months or mileage in kilometers), and are performed at intervals of one, two or three years, depending on the type, type and model of the car.  Freight cars may be placed in depot repair ahead of schedule at the initiative of the car owner.

Maintenance - 2

Maintenance of a loaded or empty freight car, with its disconnection from transit and trains arriving before disbandment, or formed train composition, with the transfer of the car to an idle fleet and its placement on specialized tracks. The grounds for maintenance of cars with uncoupling from the train is the detection of faults by the car inspector based on the results of an on-site inspection.

Overhaul

Repairs are carried out to restore the full or close to full operational life of the car with the repair or replacement of components and parts of the car in accordance with the requirements of the guidelines approved by the Central Administration of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”. It is carried out at intervals of 8 to 17 years (tanks from 4 to 13) depending on the type, type and model of the car.

ROSE

Railcar overhaul with service life extension (ROSE) is the control of the technical condition of all load-bearing elements of the railcar structure, with the restoration of their designated service life, replacement or restoration of any of its components, including basic ones, and the assignment of a new service life.
